Best Seller

And Then There Were None is enjoyed in over 50 languages around the world and "... is the story that made Agatha Christie the best-selling novelist of all time," (Agatha Christie Limited, "And Then There Were None"). The novel has been continually adapted from the stage to the screen; it has inspired countless stories, movies, and parodies. No matter the adaptations, the novel itself has sold over, "...100m copies worldwide, making it the bestselling crime novel of all time," (Flood, 2015).

Nursery Rhyme

The murders in the book follow an eerie nursery rhyme by Frank Green. The wording of the rhyme has changed over time due to its racial insensitivities. However, in most current publications the rhyme talks about the "Ten Little Soldier Boys".

The Plot

Ten strangers are invited to the isolated and mysterious Soldier Island for various reasons. Their hosts, Mr. and Mrs. U.N. Owen are nowhere to be found, and they are in fact "UNKNOWN". After it is revealed that each guest is guilty with a secret of their own, they are murdered one by one. With each death, a little china figure disappears. Quickly the guests discover the nursery rhyme "Ten Little Soldier Boys" is counting down their impending death until there are none remaining and an "unsolvable crime" takes their place.
